Transition Coaching

Coaching for the space between chapters

Because life is lived through transitions

What is transition coaching?

Life doesn’t stand still.

Whether the catalyst was a layoff, a career change, a recent retirement, a relationship change, new caregiving responsibilities, a leadership transition, relocation, graduation, illness, a newly empty nest, or any number of other events, the odds are high you’re currently dealing with some form of external change.

And perhaps you’ve also noticed a change in yourself – in what you believe, what you value, or what you want.

In the face of either (or both) internal or external changes, you may also be feeling uncertain, stuck, or overwhelmed.

Transition coaching provides a safe space to pause, reflect, and move forward with intention in light of the changes around and within you. We work together to identify what matters most to you now and what possibilities lie ahead. Through thoughtful conversation, practical tools, and ongoing support, you’ll gain greater clarity, confidence, and momentum to craft your next chapter with intention.

Is transition coaching for me?

In my view, we are always in transition. But transition coaching may be particularly timely for you if:

  • You’ve recently experienced a layoff or unexpected career disruption
  • You’re considering a career change or professional pivot
  • You’re approaching retirement and wondering what comes next
  • You’re navigating caregiving responsibilities or a major family transition
  • You’re stepping into a new leadership role
  • You’ve achieved important goals but are questioning what comes next
  • You feel stuck between an ending and a new beginning

What happens in transition coaching?

Every coaching engagement is unique, but like all forms of personal coaching, transition coaching is a confidential and creative partnership that is focused on achieving specific outcomes that you define (and can modify at any time). Because it has a specific emphasis on navigating through change, transition coaching usually includes:

  • Clarifying your current values and priorities (newsflash: these can and do change over our lifetimes)
  • Exploring possibilities and opportunities
  • Reframing challenges and setbacks – and devising strategies for overcoming them
  • Building confidence and resilience
  • Making intentional decisions
  • Creating meaningful goals and action plans
  • Maintaining momentum in the face of, and in spite of, change
  • Developing or maintaining self-accountability and self-discipline
