My story
Although I started coaching formally in 2022, coaching wasn’t a pivot for me. It’s a throughline, a natural extension of how I’ve always thought, worked, and shown up for others.
I grew up in Colorado, where many of my early years were shaped by team sports. When an ACL injury at 16 took me off the field, I didn’t lose my connection to the game—I just experienced it differently, as a referee and a lifelong sports fan (my current teams are the Portland Thorns & the Portland Fire). But that early foundation of teamwork, discipline, and shared goals has never really left me.
I’ve also always been curious—sometimes broadly so. In college, that meant taking classes across more than 20 departments before eventually paring down to a double major in English and Humanities. What I was really drawn to wasn’t just a specific subject; it was learning itself, and how people make sense of things.
That love of learning took me to UC Santa Barbara for graduate work. I had visons of earning my PhD and then helping other students find meaning—and maybe themselves—in literature. During that pursuit, I instead stumbled into a career in the world of corporate IT. What kept me there wasn’t the technology; it was the people—both teammates and customers.
For the next two decades, I led organizations and initiatives across continents from my home in Portland, Oregon, while also teaching at Portland State University. Whether teaching grad students, leading international teams, or building content systems, my work consistently centered on helping others navigate complexity, find clarity, and move forward.
Looking back, coaching was always there:
- Counseling my peers in high school
- Being an resident advisor and program assistant in college
- Teaching and advising students during grad school and beyond
- Leading corporate teams in a people-centered way
- Creating belonging through employee resource groups
But the label came much later. In 2022, I became a certified professional coach, formalizing something I had been doing all along.
Today, I split my time between working with a content strategy and operations consultancy and running my own coaching practice. This combination gives me the best of both worlds: staying connected to complex, real-world challenges while also working directly with individuals in a more focused and personal way.
It feels a bit like coming full circle.
Through all of it, one thing has stayed consistent: a drive to help people think clearly, move forward with intention, and create what’s next—on purpose.
My values
I believe one of the keys to clarity, progress, and fulfillment is staying grounded in what matters most. I’m at my best—most productive, engaged, and fulfilled—when I’m aligned with the five pillars below.
Ingenuity
I’ve always been wired to make things better.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been “MacGyvering” systems, processes, and tools—finding ways to improve what exists and make things clearer, easier, and more effective. That instinct shows up in everything I do, including coaching.
Learning & Growth
Growth—mine and others’—is a constant.
I’m driven by curiosity: how people think, how they change, and what helps them move forward. Coaching creates space for reflection, insight, and meaningful progress over time.
Integrity
How you move forward matters.
I believe in honesty, transparency, compassion, and authentic, purposeful, diligent work. Coaching is a space for real thinking, real conversations, and decisions you can stand behind.
Service
My best work has always been in service to others.
From counseling peers to teaching students to leading teams, my driving purpose has been consistent: to help people navigate what’s hard or uncertain and move forward toward their goals.
Collaboration
Like memories, better outcomes are built together.
From team sports early on to leading organizations, I’ve seen how shared effort and diverse perspectives lead to stronger decisions, better results, deeper learning, and more fun. Coaching is an inherently collaborative process—we think, grow, and build forward together. For me, both the work and the results are all the richer when a journey is shared.
These are five of my grounding pillars, which I come back to when i’m feeling off-kilter. These pillars also inform how I approach coaching.
I’d love to hear what grounds you and shapes your goals and pursuits. Articulating and revisiting your values and aspirations can be an excellent starting place for a coaching engagement. Drop me a message or schedule a consultation if you’d like to talk!
My approach
Coaching is a collaborative, creative process designed to help you gain clarity, make meaningful decisions, and move forward with intention. At its core, it’s a partnership: you bring your goals, questions, and experiences, and I bring structure, perspective, and support.
We begin by creating a safe, judgment-free space where you can think out loud. Together, we’ll clarify what you want to focus on, define what success looks like, and identify how you’ll know you’re making progress. From that foundation, we’ll then work together over a series of sessions to identify practical steps, address obstacles, and create momentum toward your goals.
My role is to guide and support you, not to provide answers. The insights, decisions, and direction come from you. You are always in control of what we focus on and how we proceed. Throughout the process, everything we discuss remains confidential, with the rare exception of legal or safety considerations we’ll review up front.
Each session is designed to help you think clearly, take meaningful action, and move forward with confidence—on your terms.
